Hats off Liam....now the real learning (and the best fun) starts!

For the aeros: 1. Nice lookout, perhaps the ASI has a naked woman on it. 2. Don't ever wear sunglasses like this. 3. Try turning to the right one day, only Zoolander was an ombiturner. Awesome camera position, though. Oh, and the constant chewing is cool.

Apologies for the cynicism, I'm now stuck in Tindal with miniumum six thousand foot bases and streets to Alice...but no glider nor means to launch it with.

Comment on Wave Camp Poetry, With Apologies To Banjo by DrewMcKinnie

Hi guys,

That was a fun wave camp and we sure enjoyed having you with us. The dinner we shared at the Transylvania vineyard (no joke) with Allan's poetry was also excellent. Not much wave but great camaraderie and some good fun in the air. Sleeping under the wing of the Cessna was a good move :-)

Unfortunately, our friend Allan's flights that week were his last. This morning, Allan has taken his last long high launch.

For some time he had been fighting a lymphoma condition. He had a good remission period, then it resurged, so he recently took a Canadian holiday with his wife Dell. He died quietly, peacefully, without suffering. He had been on oxygen and painkilling medication throughout, but his lungs just couldn't keep up with demand, and he slipped away. We all took comfort from the fact that Canberra's southern sky was filled with strong lenticular clouds, firing off the Tinderry Ranges and Brindabellas, when he died.

So these words Allan wrote and recited with such spirit have special significance for us all.

Comment on Bill Wright by Lee-Anne Eather

Bill had known me for years and I was unknown to a lot of his friends that he often spoke about. Bill with his wicked sense of humour said "it was so he didn't have competition".

Bill was a generous, honest, diligent, meticulous, caring and funny man. Bill could always see the humorous side in anything. In hospital, when in great pain the poor chap across the room was complaining about the drip in his arm being painful when he moved his hand from side to side. Bill seized the moment and exclaimed "It's because he’s been wanking all night". I said to him in an embarrassed whisper "stop it Bill" red face, at which point he roared out with a laugh. His outbursts proved somewhat nerve-wracking.

I promised Bill I would be there for him until the end. This proved to be the hardest thing I have done in my life.

A wonderful legacy Bill has left for me is acceptance in his inner circle of close friends. His friends meant the world to him.

I would like to thank J.P for his touching Eulogy. I would like to thank Nick Wills for organising the fly-by and everyone for attending.

Thank you for being my friend Bill. You will be missed but not forgotten.

The obvious downside to breaking with a long term activity is to lose currency with the people who make up that group. It's been a few years now since I've strapped on the tug,& now with my first contact for some time,I am deeply saddened to hear that we have lost " Bilious Bill",our in-yer-face genuine Pommy larrikin bastard. How I loved his roaring belly laugh at some other poor buggars misfortune or maybe one of his hillarious jokes....god he could laugh couldn't he!....& wasn't it infectious!?....RIP ol' mate.

It was a privelege to take part in the missing man formation at Bill's "leaving do" at Warkworth. These occasions are very moving, and whilst I have flown many such flights for "former pilots" this one was very special because Bill was a good friend. This was no routine flight, and as we ran in for the first pass my heart was beating quite rapidly! On the final pass when the lead aircraft peeled away for the missing man formation, I could almost here Bill's famous words "Bombs away" which was his signature call to let the tug pilot know he was off tow and free as a bird!

The eulogy presented by JP and posted above was absolutely perfect.

Thanks to all those who attended. I think he would have approved!
